Life After Bankruptcy
Many people think after they file
bankruptcy that they will be back in good financial
shape. That is simply not true. Life after
bankruptcy is not that easy. A bankruptcy filing is a
major black mark on your credit. It is now up to you to
build your credit back up and avoid future problems.
Where to Start
Start by changing your lifestyle. You need to make a
budget that works. You have to drop expenses that are not
necessary. You have to give up frills and start
over. You will be living beneath your means because you
need to in order to stay on track credit wise.
Keep Up on Bills
No matter what you do you always have to make sure that you
do not let any bill fall behind. You should have budgeted
for all your expenses. Now make sure that you pay bills
first out of your pay checks so you ensure all your bills are
paid on time every month.
Saving
In addition to your expenses, you also should budget in
savings. You want to build a savings account that you can
use for emergencies. It is smart to have a nice savings
that can help you stay out of financial trouble. Try to
avoid taking money from your
savings.
Get Credit
Your next step should be to find ways to rebuild
credit. You should not go right out and jump into every
credit opportunity. Plan smartly. Use opportunities
that are smart. If you need a car then get an auto loan
to help build your credit. Avoid credit cards as they
will likely have high interest rates that will just get you
into financial trouble again.
Your goal is to get credit without causing problems in your
budget. Do not go crazy, but be smart. Lenders need
to see that you will honor credit extension terms and not
default again.
It will be slow at first because you are starting
over. You do not have clean credit anymore, though.
You now have a bankruptcy on your credit which will make you a
high risk for lenders and creditors. You have to keep
that in mind and make a new goal to stay on top of your
expenses and spend wisely.
Life after bankruptcy is not going to be easy. You may
have wiped away all your bad credit debts, but now you have to
rebuild a good credit record in order to really be considered a
person with good credit. It will take time but it can be
done.
